What To Expect During Your First Infusion Therapy Session

What To Expect During Your First Infusion Therapy Session

If your provider has recommended infusion therapy, you may be feeling uncertain about what the process involves. At Gracewell Health and Wellness Clinic, we want every patient to feel informed, comfortable, and confident before their very first visit to our Infusion Center.

What Is Infusion Therapy? Infusion therapy involves delivering medication, fluids, or nutrients directly into the bloodstream through an intravenous (IV) line. It is used to treat a wide range of conditions including autoimmune disorders, chronic illnesses, infections, and nutritional deficiencies — often when oral medications are not effective enough.

Before Your Appointment Your Gracewell provider will review your medical history and explain the specific medication or treatment you will be receiving. It is recommended to eat a light meal beforehand, stay well hydrated, and wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to your arm.

During Your Session Upon arrival at our Infusion Center, you will be welcomed by our clinical team and guided to your individualized treatment space. You will be seated in a comfortable recliner chair while a nurse prepares your IV line. Sessions can range from 30 minutes to several hours depending on your treatment — so feel free to bring a book, enjoy our TV, or simply relax with our free Wi-Fi.

After Your Session Most patients tolerate infusion therapy very well. Your nurse will monitor you throughout the session and for a short period afterward. You may feel slightly tired following your appointment — rest is encouraged. Your provider will schedule follow-up sessions based on your treatment plan.

At Gracewell, patient comfort is our priority every step of the way. If you have questions about infusion therapy or want to learn whether it is right for you, contact our team today.
